Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier visits the biggest softball tournament this summer, the Summer Grand Slam 8.

   MANILA, Philippines – The RP Blu Girls lost to the Netherlands, 2-7, in the Women's World Softball Championships in Surrey, Canada but will still advance to the championship round robin.

   The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines is set to retrace the formula that made the Philippine Blu Girls the third best women’s softball team in the 70s.

AsaPhil secretary general Danny Francisco last Thursday announced during the SCOOP Sa Kamayan On Air that the Blu Girls, who recently had reaffirmed their fourth place standing in the Asian Women’s championship held in Taipei will be sent to the United States for a three-month training stint in preparations for the coming 17th Asia Games in Incheon, South Korea.

   Bacolod City brought home the victory after seizing the gold medal at the Batang Pinoy Softball Championships on January 28 to February 1, 2014 at the Bacolod City National High School. The Bacolod team won after snatching a thrilling 6-3 victory over team Pasig City.

   THE Philippine Blu Girls finished made it to the semifinals of the recent Asian Women’s Softball championships held in Taiwan, with China upending Japan 2-1 for the crown and Chinese Taipei finishing third. The Blu Girls reached the play-off stage after beating Hong Kong and Korea but were beaten by Taipei for the third place. According to ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier who accompanied the team, the Blu Girls have shown a lot of improvements in terms of speed and batting but have to work on overall fielding accuracy and fitness.

   The Philippine Blu Girls bowed to the region’s powerhouse teams but beat Hong Kong and South Korea to finish fourth in the Asian Women’s Softball Championship topped by China in Kaohshiung, Taiwan recently.

   LONDON (UK) - The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) campaign to be included in the 2020 Olympic Games has received a major boost with official opening weekend activities at the first dedicated national baseball and softball venue in Britain.

   The World Cup of Softball, hosted by ASA/USA Softball and sanctioned by the ISF, finished with Japan earning the gold, USA the silver, and Australia the bronze. Canada and Puerto Rico rounded out the field of teams. Competition was tight with close scores and upsets; after round robin play, three out of five teams ended with a 4-1 record. ESPN broadcasted the tournament across its family of networks for coverage in more than 140 countries. Games which were not shown live on ESPN were available through web streaming.

   OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (USA) - The World Cup of Softball has scored a home run here for the campaign to get softball and baseball in the 2020 Olympic Games.

   BRAMPTON, ONTARIO (CANADA) - Starting July 1, all 73 games from the 10th International Softball Federation Jr. Women's World Championship will be web-streamed. The 16-nation event will take place in Brampton, Ontario (Canada).

   Cebuana Lhuillier slo-pitch softball team bagged the second place in the recently concluded South East Asian (SEA) softball tournament in Jakarta after posting a 6-11 score in its game against USA Fattboyz. Joining the team is Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO and Cebuana Lhuillier slo-pitch softball team owner and player Jean Henri Lhuillier.

   A TOTAL of 30 teams, including two foreign teams from Indonesia and Brunei, will see action in the week-long ASAPHIL-organized Softball Summer Grandslam 2013 that starts may 1 at the Clark Freeport Zone with University of the Philippines playing Rizal Technological University in the first game in the women’s Open Division, followed by the match between defending women’s champion Adamson University and National University.
